Welcome and welcome back
A welcome song for someone arriving, or coming home
Walking into somewhere new always comes with a little awkwardness: the first lunch with a partner's relatives, the empty desk on day one at the office, the adopted child studying their bedroom and wondering whether they're allowed to touch the toys. A sung welcome breaks the ice better than any speech, because it tells the newcomer that someone was waiting for them and took the time to get to know them.
It works the other way round too, for people coming back: the brother home after two years abroad, the friend walking through her front door after a long stay in hospital, the sailor stepping ashore after months at sea. Tell us who they are and what's waiting for them here; you read the lyrics before the music. Play it at the arrivals gate, at a family dinner, or in the team chat on their first Monday.

What to tell us to make them feel at home
- Who's arriving and from where: Dad's new partner, the adopted cousin, the colleague transferring from another city, the new neighbors on the third floor.
- The house rules or group traditions to let them in on: Sunday lunch, the 10:30 coffee break, the cat who must never get out.
- For someone returning: how long they were away, what they missed most, what changed while they were gone.
- A promise for what's ahead: the seat at the table that's now theirs, Thursday's pickup game, the first vacation all together.
