"If I come and find it…": why mum always finds everything

The missing sock, the keys at eight, the T-shirt in the third drawer: the line every mum says and the superpower that comes with it, told in a song. To listen to, and to give.

"Mum, I can't find it!" How many times have we shouted that from one room to another? The sock, the keys, the T-shirt you swore you'd left on the bed. And back comes the same answer, calm and slightly threatening: "If I come and find it…". She comes, opens a drawer, and finds it. Every single time.

We made a song out of that line, in Italian, where it's a family classic: "Se vengo io e lo trovo!". The full animated video is at the top, and you can listen to it below with the lyrics. Then we'll tell you why mum always finds everything.

The line we've all heard

"If I come and find it…" is one of those lines that crosses generations. Grandma said it to mum, mum said it to us, and sooner or later we'll say it too. She never needs to finish the sentence: everyone knows how it ends. She comes, she finds it, and you're left wondering how.

In the song the scene is exactly that: "Mum, I can't find anything here!" "You're just not looking properly!". And while you turn the room upside down, she already knows where it is from the sofa, smiling and counting: "One, two, three…".

Mum's superpower

It isn't magic, though it looks like it. Mum finds everything because she really knows the house: where things end up, who moves them and when. We search in a hurry, with our eyes, hoping the thing will jump out at us. She searches calmly, and above all with her memory.

Then there's the other half of the superpower: tidying up. In the song, asked "So who put them there, eh?", mum calmly replies: "I didn't move a thing, I just tidied up!". Which is exactly why you couldn't find your keys.

Even when you're grown up

The ending of the song is the funniest part, because it's true. You grow up, move out, make all your own decisions. Then one day, among a thousand other questions: "Muuum… where are my pants?!". And she answers on the phone, without hesitation: "Second drawer, at the back on the right!". "But mum, this is my house!" "I popped round yesterday to say hello… and tidied up before I left!".

The superpower never expires. It even works at a distance, in a house that isn't hers.

A song for mum, made of her own words

The best songs for mum aren't the ones full of "you're the best in the world". They're the ones that make her laugh and cry at the same time, because her own words are in them: the lines she's always said, her habits, the family scenes only you know.

With Ti Canto you tell us all that: what she calls you, what she says when you can't find something, the way she tidies everything away. That's where the lyrics come from, and you read and change them word by word before the music. Then you pick a style and two musical versions arrive: keep the one you like best.

You listen for free before deciding, and unlock it only if you love it. Then you give it with a link to a gift page where the lyrics scroll in time with the music, or with a printable card with a QR code.

What to put in your mum's song

Before you start, try answering these questions:

  • What's the line she always says, the one you know by heart?
  • What does she always find that you never can?
  • What's her little habit around the house that makes you smile?
  • Is there a family scene you'd tell everyone about?
  • What would you like to tell her that you don't usually say?

Why does mum always find everything?

Because she really knows the house: where things end up, who moves them and when. And because she looks calmly, while we search in a hurry and only with our eyes.

Can I make a song for my mum out of the things she always says?

Yes, and it's the best way: you tell us the lines she's always repeated, and the lyrics put them in rhyme. You read and change them word by word before the music.

Does it work for Mother's Day or a birthday?

Of course. It works for any occasion: Mother's Day, a birthday, a thank-you for no reason. You give it with a link, lyrics scrolling in time, or with a printable card with a QR code.
